This is Part 2 of my Japan/Korea yarn haul, where I’ll dive into the craft goodies I got from Seoul. Make sure you read the first part here, Yarn Shopping in Tokyo, Japan!
Yarn Shopping in Seoul, Korea
myKnit Studio
myKnit Studio
Found at the entrance of Culture Street in Insa-dong, Seoul
myKnit Studio was a happy surprise find for me! We were out and about in Insa-dong where I happened to look at Google Maps for any yarn stores around. Luckily, there was one right around the corner! This one was a bit hard to find, so I’ll add the details on the location here.
When you’re headed towards the entrance of Insadong Street, you’ll come across this unassuming building entrance (if you don’t see it, it’s on the other end 😆):
After you enter, you’ll then walk up the stairs to the third floor. Slide the door open, and you’re in!
To be specific, you are in a room filled from floor to ceiling with yarn, patterns, tools, everything related! Not only are there walls filled with yarn; there are walls behind walls via sliding shelves, all filled with yarn.
It was really, really hard to make any decisions with all the choices I had… but I did, somehow! I got 4 skeins of yarn + a gauge tool:
The ball of yarn from Multico was in a colorway I didn’t have already, so I bought two. Ironically, having just come from Tokyo, this is a Japanese brand made in Japan. I don’t know what I’m going to make out of them yet:
The other two hanks are from Tibetan yak, which is a yarn composition I definitely don’t already have:
and the sheep gauge is so cute!
Banul Story
Banul Story
15 Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea
There is no way I could visit Seoul without stopping by Banul Story! This store is, by far, the most hyped location out of any that I’ve ever heard of in these two countries.
The storefront is easy to spot once you find it on a map and start walking towards it! It’s a big building with bold orange accents:
Once you walk inside, you will see the famous, stories-tall shelves holding spools:
We first got waffles upstairs… mmm! I recommend! I had the cookie butter waffle:
The cafe is also where the wall of crocheted cacti are. I loved that, it was so cute!
Then finally, the bottom story where all the shopping happens. I was paralyzed by all of what was being offered, in addition to all of the already-made items as inspiration:
I circled the shop floor no fewer than three times. I somehow narrowed down my purchases to 3 balls of yarn and some “handmade” tags.
I got some purple cotton slub. I’ve never seen slub before! I might make a shirt out of it. The reason I chose purple is because I learned earlier in my trip from my color analysis that this purple is one of the better colors in my color palette:
And I got these “hand made” tags to sew into the next three things I make as a gift. I think they’d go on things like bags or a pouch, not so much any clothing items:
I’m so, so happy with my trip and already want to go back. I hope this post helped anyone going to Seoul soon. Let me know how you like the stores!
