A while back, I was fixing a baseball cap — its snapback broke, so I sewed in a new snapback. The part that I struggled with the most was trying to pull the needle through all the material and layers. I experienced this again when I was hand sewing a toiletry bag. My hand would cramp and the process just seemed to take forever! And this is where I very excitedly share with you a fantastic new tool I found:
The Sewing Trick
I never knew these existed. They are called needle pullers. I got these from Joann in the quilting section:

You simply wrap this little guy around your needle after you insert it through your layers and pull the needle, and magically, the needle comes out effortlessly!

The needle pullers are lightweight and super easy to use. I could even use it with my weak and uncoordinated left hand:

Needle Puller vs Pliers
You might be asking, why not use pliers? The answer is: 1. I did not think of it; and 2. needle pullers are honestly easier.

I came to the #2 conclusion after I had a few suggestions to use needle-nose pliers, so I put the needle pullers against pliers head to head to find out which one I liked more. My test and results are in the video below:
Pliers vs. Needle Puller Final Results

The little needle pullers are more convenient in that they are lighter and smaller (which is better for storage and not hijacking the family’s pliers), and they also can be used faster and from more angles compared to pliers that you have to hold in a specific way at a specific angle.
So that’s my assessment! Did you know these exist?
