Here’s something I made recently, just in time for the holidays: a shiba inu coming out of a gift box!
Pattern and Designer
The pattern from @medaami, and here’s how the original was intended to look:
My Version Crocheting a Shiba Inu
I worked on this on nights and weekends, so front to back start to finish it took me about a week and a half. Because of my pressured timeline, I omitted the circle design on the gift box.
In looking at this now and comparing it to the original, I think I overstuffed the lid and the box. In mine, you can see underside of the top lid… oops! I am still trying to find the sweet spot between too much and not enough stuffing.
Speaking of the underside of the top lid, there was also a color I omitted, which was to use a darker color than the outside of the present to do the underside. I didn’t have a darker color, so I used what I had — the same color — and I think it turned out just fine!
Elements Within the Dog Amigurumi
Here’s a side view:
For this crochet dog toy, I sewed on the lid on the dog’s head, but I didn’t like the result because I thought it was too far forward and blocked the dog’s face from view. I ended up ripping it out and re-doing it, further back. It’s better this way so you can see his cutie face!
I loved this crochet bow element as well! I had never crocheted a bow so I was super interested in seeing how this one was made. The result here was great too.
Here’s a 360 if you’d like more visuals on the finished product:
Overall Recommendation
Overall, I’d recommend the pattern for an intermediate level crochet-er. I think it would be a hit with any dog lover, and you can customize the colors to match a specific dog if you need to. For this pattern, you can customize how the gift looks, too; instead of circles per the pattern or plain like I did, I can totally see someone sewing on another design, any shape or imagery or customization. Go for it and let me know how it goes!
